How can I learn more about San Francisco's cable cars?

Answer

cable car 15At its peak, the cable car system of San Francisco had twenty-three lines. Today, only three remain (two from downtown to Fisherman's Wharf and one on California Street) and they are primarily used by tourists.

To learn more about the history of the cable car system, check out Wikipedia's article on the topic. Or you can visit the Cable Car Museum in person.

To learn more about the current routes and fares, visit transit.511.org.
